SL水平要求：

在SL，IB设计技术IA要求学生确定一个问题并提出解决方案，根据四个通用标准进行评估：

Analysis of a design opportunity设计机会的分析；

Conceptual design概念设计；

Development of a detailed design详细设计的开发；

Testing and evaluation测试和评估；

HL水平要求：

在HL，IB设计技术IA扩展到包括创新方面。根据另外两个标准评估设计项目：

Detailed development of a commercial product商业产品的详细开发；

Making choices for commercial production为商业生产做出选择；
